I have been there a few times. Every time the foods has been great and the staff excellent, we would recommend.

Ate at Bays Bistro last night and can only say we were disappointed. we ordered king prawns salad for starter which consisted of 5 prawns and about 1 tablespoon of shredded salad leaves. the main courses whilst sounding interesting “rose beef” and “slow cooked lamb” came perched in the middle of a large square white plate. The lamb was a peice about 2″ wide 4″ long and 1/2″ thick- rolled, the amount of actual lamb once you had scraped away the fat and skin must have amounted to about 50g, which admittedly was tasty, we we were told the meal came with veg which was a relief as additional portions of carrots, peas and potatoes came it at around £2.50 per portion, so thats £7.50 if you wanted all three. However my lamb was accompanied with 1 small stuffed tomato and a peice of fried/roast potato about 1/3 the size of the Lamb. The summer pudding was delicious but again was a tiny tiny portion. I don’t think I have ever been to a resturant and eaten 3 courses and left feeling hungry.
The bill came to about £116 that was 3 courses for 4 people inc one and half bottles of wine this total was minus the cost of the lamb and minus 25% cos it was a week night. Sorry but in my book that is not value for money!

I have lived in the north east for the last 5 years, having previously lived in London. I have become familiar with various restaurants both in Newcastle and at the coast and must say that Bay’s Bistro is my most popular by far. Of course the food itself is outstanding, the whole ambiance and atmosphere aswell as the professional service provides for a very enjoyable meal! I ate at Bay’s Bistro just last night and had the most wonderful evening. Will definatley eat there again and again!

Thomas,

Try the early bird special in future. It’s cheaper but still quality. Anyway the food there is excellent and the waiters are very proffessional, which is hard to find in Whitley bay.I’d reccommend it to anyone.
